Traditional sandstone gate pillar rebuild

Edinburgh Stone Repair Ltd recently completed the rebuilding and restoration of this traditional sandstone gate pillar in Eskbank, Midlothian.

The original pillar had suffered significant deterioration and required extensive replacement. New natural sandstone was supplied and individually hand dressed by our stonemasons, carefully replicating the original dimensions, profiles and traditional tooling.

The pillar was then rebuilt using traditional stonemasonry techniques, with particular attention given to the tooled margins, stugged finishes and detailed moulded stonework to ensure the new masonry remained in keeping with the character of the original property.

A great example of traditional craftsmanship being used to preserve and restore Edinburgh and Midlothian’s historic stonework.
